Chapter 1 · Intro
Why remote monitoring?
Monitoring is more useful when learners know whether they need to see a current state, compare a trend, or define a condition worth attention.
The situation
A facilities colleague asks whether a room-temperature issue happened only today or has repeated over several weeks.
Ask the time question first
Exosphere Analytics documents real-time monitoring for current control and sensor data, historical analysis for time ranges and aggregations, and alert rules for telemetry limits. These are different ways of asking about the same installation evidence.
For the temperature question, begin with a current reading to understand today, then compare a historical period to see whether the pattern repeats. If the responsible team has an approved limit, an alert rule can be discussed as a separate condition—not inferred from one chart.
The sequence prevents a common error: treating a single current value as proof of a long-term pattern, or treating a trend as an instruction to change a system.
- Choose live data or history for “what is happening now?”
- Choose live data or history for “has this repeated?”
- State what must be approved before an alert condition is created.
